How to apply

Which way is best for you?

If you have decided that an Apprenticeship is the right route for you, there are a number of ways you can apply for one.

Route one

Call the national Apprenticeships line on 08000 150 600 to request further information on the areas of work you are interested in. Don’t worry it is a free phone number, so the call won’t cost you anything.

You’ll be sent the relevant information and then be contacted by an advisor from your local area who will put you in touch with learning providers or employers near you, who may have suitable vacancies. Alternatively you could fill out our online form in the section called ‘What next?’.

Route two

You can apply for an Apprenticeship by going direct to employers in your local area, they may be advertising specifically for Apprenticeship vacancies or you could get in touch with local employers that are known to employ apprentices to see if they have any places coming up.

Lots of employers also have information about Apprenticeship vacancies on their own websites, so it would be worthwhile doing a search on the internet for local employers who offer Apprenticeships.

Remember: you’re asking them to take you on as an employee, so you’ll need to make a good impression when you phone or write to them.

Alternatively if you already have a job, why not ask your employer if they would consider putting you on an Apprenticeship. If they need more information on how they can go about this they could take a look at the Apprenticeships website for employers or alternatively they could call the Apprenticeships line on 08000 150 400 and explain they would like an existing employee to start on an Apprenticeship.

What happens next?

If there are vacancies available, apply as soon as you can as demand for places is high in most areas.  Ensure you fill in any forms you are sent on time and make sure you confirm meetings with employers or learning providers.

Just like a job interview

As an apprentice you will be taken on as an employee so you will go through the recruitment process, this may mean an interview with the learning provider in the first instance, then followed by a telephone or face to face interview with the employer.

Just like any other job interview, you’ll have to present yourself well, explain why you are interested in the job and go a way to convincing them that you are the right person for the job.
