Oil and Gas Extraction Apprenticeship - Manufacturing
Anyone working in this industry will work on either an offshore or an onshore installation. Apprentices are trained in one of the following maintenance disciplines: mechanical, electrical or instrumentation or process production.
This sector needs to attract more young people into the industry, to help existing employees gain skills in using technology and ensure that the highest levels of health and safety are used by all.
One of the Skills Councils for this sector is Cogent, which covers oil and gas exploration, extraction, chemicals manufacturing and processing, petroleum refining, blending, storage and distribution, forecourt operations, oil fired heating services, manufacture of aviation fuels, bitumen, inks, polymer and nuclear industries. If you are under 19 and thinking about taking up an Apprenticeship, you may want to discuss the details with a Connexions Personal Adviser. You can also go to ‘What next?’ to get in touch with someone who can help with your query.
Alternatively, if you are over 19 years of age you can contact your local Jobcentre Plus for additional help and advice. For more information, visit http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk
