A good florist has creative flair, a sense of colour and design and a thorough knowledge of flowering plants. Retail and customer care skills are essential to sell floristry products, purchase raw materials and handle payment.

The Skills Council for this sector is called Lantra, which covers agricultural livestock and crops, animal care, animal technology, aquaculture, environmental conservation, equine, farriery, fencing, floristry, forestry and timber processing, game conservation, land based engineering, landscaping, productive horticulture and veterinary nursing. Alternatively, if you are over 19 years of age you can contact your local Jobcentre Plus for additional help and advice. For more information, visit http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk This link opens in a new window
