Personal Achiever of the Year Award
(16-18)
Stacey Brown
Stacey’s Apprenticeship involves her working as receptionist, accounts assistant and marketing assistant at John Kirk Design. There, she has a wide spectrum of duties ranging from processing invoice orders to recording market research, as well as liaising with heads of departments and handling complaints. Stacey has been in this role since October 2005 and will be starting an accountancy course in September 2006.
Stacey was the victim of a serious attack in 2003, and whilst awaiting trial for the perpetrator started a relationship with someone else. This resulted in prolonged and sustained physical and mental abuse from him, and at the same time, at the young age of 15 she held down two jobs to support them both. She demonstrated immense strength of character to finally leave him and seek out her family, who were delighted to see her and keen to aid her recovery in any way.
Since becoming an apprentice, Stacey has not only gained valuable work experience, but has started studying for her GCSEs and is determined to do well. She is delighted that her work has arranged for her to start on her accounts course and says that her Apprenticeship has allowed her to “find the girl I used to be”
