Apprentice of the Year
Michaella McNamara
Michaella started her Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Luton Borough Council in August 2004, and was given a wide range of responsibilities. These include providing administrative support to the Council’s sponsorship and advertising officer as well as supporting the design and web teams. Her daily role included maintaining databases, organising the despatch of the Council’s key communication tools, processing adverts and financial transactions.
The impact of Michaella on her company includes improved performance of the sponsorship and advertising team, more effective use of resources which thus allowed senior staff to concentrate on management and operational tasks, and plans in place to develop new initiatives including changing school menu’s to promote healthy eating.
Income generated through Michaella’s work has helped her to secure a second full time post within the company and a new role of Marketing Support Officer for 2006/2007 She is also keen to further her career prospects by undertaking more professional training and she says she is ‘determined to make a success out of the chance I have been given’.
Michaella’s endorser Rik Hammond describes her “as fast becoming an invaluable asset to the Council”. He also points out that “over £67,000 can be directly attributed to Michaella’s efforts in the past year”.
Michaella is a finalist in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2006, Apprentice of the Year category. The prestigious awards aim to recognise young people and employers who have succeeded through Apprenticeships.
