Building Services Engineering Technology
This Advanced Level Apprenticeship covers the installation and maintenance of a range of systems and services in new and existing buildings. This can include heating, lighting, air conditioning and ventilation, refrigeration, water supply and plumbing, lifts and escalators, and electrical power systems. These systems are becoming increasingly complex, and building service engineers must balance the need for a comfortable indoor environment with other issues like safety and energy efficiency.
As an apprentice, you’ll work towards engineering technician status, and aid engineers in their work. Your duties may include discussions with clients and architects; preparing designs on computers; estimating costs; supervising installation; and maintenance and repair. Building Services Engineers often specialise in one function, so the nature of your work will depend on your employer.
On this Advanced Level Apprenticeship, you’ll develop and enhance the technical and management skills in a variety of applications and job roles, from design to installation and servicing to project management. You’ll need to be good at maths and physics and have keen analytical and problem-solving skills.
Successful apprentices will have qualifications that can contribute to professional recognition as an Engineering Technician with the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
