Healthy approach to skill shortages

26 August 2010

ImageA North East NHS organisation is giving the skills of its workforce a healthy boost with the appointment of nine apprentices.

Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland Community Services (MRCCS), which has around 1,000 employees and provides health and social care services for the local community, has adopted the Apprenticeship programme in a bid to avoid future skills shortages.

As well as 24 hour nursing and medical care for people in their own homes, the organisation provides a full and diverse range of services including rehabilitation programmes, care and treatment in community hospitals and specialist advice in relation to diet, nutrition and sexual health.

As part of its plan to equip the current and future workforce with practical, work-related skills and qualifications, MRCCS has signed up seven new members of staff and two existing employees onto the Apprenticeship programme.
