Metal works company tells pair: ‘you’re hired’

2 September 2009

A metal works company has strengthened its workforce with two enthusiastic young apprentices.

M&P Metalcraft Ltd. from Middlesbrough approached the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) to help them find an apprentice welder, and have since enrolled another young learner on an apprenticeship in office administration through the NECC.

Daniel Watkins, 17, from Acklam, Middlesbrough, is working towards an apprenticeship in welding and fabricating with the firm, and 19-year old Daniel Smith from Grangetown, Middlesbrough, has just started as an NECC apprentice in office administration.

Maria Tuck office manager at M&P Metalcraft said:

“We recruited Daniel Watkins as an apprentice welder as we are aware of the majority of welders in our workforce were approaching retirement and they posses skills and experience that we felt should be passed on the next generation.

“Since then we have signed on Daniel Smith up to the apprenticeship programme. The training support that NECC gives us is excellent. We really believe in giving young people a chance and both our apprentices are now integral members of the workforce.”
