Apprentices represent UK at WorldSkills 2009

With two months to go before WorldSkills Calgary 2009, the 26 skilled young people, including nine apprentices, who make up Team UK are looking forward to showing the rest of the world what they can do.

Team UK specialises in a wide range of vocational skills, from aircraft maintenance to stonemasonry, and includes nine apprentices from across England.

Team UK will fly to Canada in September to compete at WorldSkills Calgary 2009, the largest skills competition in the world. More than 200,000 spectators are expected to watch 900 entrants from 51 countries compete in skills like landscape gardening, hairdressing, electrical installation and painting and decorating.

The nine apprentices involved are;

  • Christopher Coates (CNC Milling)
  • Daniel Cain (Autobody Repair)
  • Christopher Lonsdale (Plumbing)
  • Sam Fairgrieve (Bricklaying)
  • Oliver Clack (Stonemasonry)
  • Adam Claridge (Jewellery)
  • Linzi Weare (Hairdressing)
  • Zak McLaughlan (Car Painting)
  • Stewart Wright (Aircraft Maintenance)
