Sarah Herrick
Sarah has come a long way since she first started at The Crown Inn as proprietor Ian Taylor says: “Sarah arrived at The Crown answering an advertisement for a pot washer. After working with Sarah for no more than three hours it was quite obvious there was a star in our midst.”
Sarah’s role includes everything from planning menus, supervising the busy restaurant’s young commis chefs and cooking to compiling staff rotas and looking after health and safety. She is responsible for wastage, therefore keeping an eye on profits and has helped to organised special nights such as Valentine’s night, which included holding briefings for staff to ensure that everyone was promoting the evening effectively.
As well as learning valuable skills on the job Sarah has achieved many qualifications throughout the duration of her Apprenticeship including her Food Hygiene Certificate, Health and Safety qualification and her key skills numeracy test.
Sarah describes herself as having “burning ambition” and she says that she wants to “move on to the Advanced Apprenticeship level and continue making her employer proud”. Of her Apprenticeship she says, “My Apprenticeship has had a huge impact on my career and I feel that it is brilliantly beneficial,” says Sarah, 22. “It has boosted my confidence in myself and my capabilities have no boundaries. I have made my family hugely proud of me and it gives me great satisfaction to talk to our customers about what I am doing.”
In summary Sarah’s boss also states that Sarah is the “most rounded, committed individual I have ever had the pleasure to work alongside”.
