In his demanding job of repairing, calibrating and maintaining critical medical equipment at the South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust, Sunderland’s Michael Crowe’s Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering (medical) has given him the high standard of knowledge, skills and confidence to excel in his work placement.
Whilst Michael’s Advanced Apprenticeship has given him the technical tools to achieve success, it has also provided a sense of professionalism and attention to detail that is critical in a department where risk levels in this critical element of healthcare must be minimised.
He says: “Not only is it important to have a high degree of technical knowledge and skill but I have to be able to understand and communicate complex information to various hospital colleagues. Because at the end of the day, the quality of service I provide has a direct impact on patient care and well-being, some of whom may be particularly vulnerable such as the terminally ill, children and premature babies.
