Welcome

Who we are

Photo of Sir Roy GardnerThe Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network (AAN) is a group of senior business leaders from FTSE 100/250 businesses and small and medium sized enterprises across the public and private sectors who have seen the value that Apprenticeships add to our businesses. The AAN is a successor arrangement to the Apprenticeships Task Force which reported in July 2005 (click here for the report).

The benefits of Apprenticeships are numerous, including increased productivity, greater staff retention and more highly motivated workforces. Please read some of our members' case studies to see how Apprenticeship programmes have contributed to the increased effectiveness of their businesses.

Government remains committed to Apprenticeships and has backed up this commitment with funding to support training costs. There are now over 200 different Apprenticeship programmes covering practically all industry sectors, so there is almost certainly a programme to meet your specific needs.

In addition to this, independent research into the return on investment of Apprenticeships shows that apprentices pay their way in some sectors in as little as six months.

Take the first steps to help improve and increase the skill levels of your workforce by incorporating Apprenticeships in your workforce development strategy.

We are always happy to have feedback so please do contact us.

Our aims

  • to champion Apprenticeships to employers of all sizes with the aim of increasing Apprenticeship take-up, particularly in sectors of poor penetration and to help promote diversity/equal opportunities.
  • to advise and help employers in improving Apprenticeship outcomes.
  • to provide feedback to Government, the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES) on issues which affect the quality and effectiveness of Apprenticeships and to flag up any other policy issues which require further exploration.

What we do

  • to be pro-active in promoting Apprenticeships within our members’ organisations and supply chains (where appropriate).
  • to provide advice and support to organisations seeking to establish Apprenticeships.
  • to play a particular role in promoting and advising on diversity in gender, ethnicity and disability.
  • to participate in a small number of conferences each year and potentially take an active role in relevant sector seminars.
  • to work with priority sectors to increase participation through presentations, business breakfasts etc.
  • to provide case study material to the NAS and Skills for Business Network for inclusion in marketing and information material.
  • to participate in ad hoc feedback activities (e.g. questionnaires, private meetings, focus groups) to inform policy developments, PR campaigns etc.
  • to participate in Apprenticeship award ceremonies and PR activities, including media interviews.
